ISTD 2021: Putting Things in Order - 'Decoding Beauty'

Decoding Beauty
ISTD 2021: Putting Things in Order Publication Design

Created for an ISTD brief that asked us to consider the lesser known and obscure ways that people have put things in order. My solution was ‘Decoding Beauty’ - a publication that creates a dialogue between different mathematical and spiritual methods that we as humans have used to rationalise beauty in art and nature.

This was explored through a collection of essays, short fiction and poetry tied to the golden ratio and sacred geometry. I paired this with organic shape-forms created using the mathematical principles applied to beauty in nature - the perfect seed distribution of a sunflower, the proportions of a face and fractal geometry etc. Ultimately, questioning our inherent desire to seek meaning through order.
